Phoenix Success Story

Phoenix (now Phoebe), is a two year old tortoiseshell female cat who was adopted in December 2020

Phoenix was found by Animal Services out on the street so we don’t know her story but she was clearly petrified of the world. At her foster home, she wouldn’t leave the closet and would wedge herself into the tightest corner. But…she couldn’t resist booty scratches, and would venture out once the scratches began.

The closet door was left open for Phoenix but she wouldn’t leave her safety zone for nearly 2 weeks. And for the longest time, her foster mom wasn’t sure Phoenix even knew how to jump because she wouldn’t jump over the 2-foot barriers surrounding the closet. Then, something special started to happen…Phoenix would venture out at night and sleep on the bed. And then she started to play on the bed, and her fun and quirky personality emerged even though she’d never leave the bedroom.

We put up her bio in hopes that a patient and understanding family would want to adopt her. And boy, did Phoenix luck out. A family was willing to take a chance on her, and they’re so happy they did. This is what her forever family had to say:

Phoebe (aka Phoenix) is the perfect fit to our little family! Things started off very slow, but after a month of patience to get her out from under the bed, she continues to show us new sides of her. She is so vocal, and is never too shy to ask for food or affection. This girl LOVES to play! She plays with anything, anytime and anywhere. Her favourite toys are spirals and every day we find them in the oddest of places. She loves being outside on our patio where she enjoys the air and listens to the birds on her grass patch! My partner and I often talk about how perfect she is for us, she follows my routine when working from home and stays up late with him as a night owl companion. She is truly a complex woman! She is so smart and observant, silly and goofy, and constantly entertains us. Sometimes we ask each other “what the heck did we used to talk about before?” because we are that obsessed! We can only hope the feeling is mutual.

Never write off shy cats because the reward is great when you finally win them over.
